You are NOT ALLOWED – Don’t risk it 🙂
Participants may only submit photos of game cutscenes if the game includes an official photo mode feature that supports such captures, as seen in games like Hellblade and A Plague Tale. The use of mods is strictly prohibited in this instance. Any submission featuring cutscenes from a game that lacks this photo mode capability will result in disqualification.
The competition aims to highlight the creativity of participants within the confines of the game environment. By requiring the use of an official photo mode for cinematic shots, the competition ensures a level playing field across both PC and Console captures, while maintaining adherence to the competition guidelines.
Yes, 25MB. You will encounter an error if the file exceeds this limit.
Each category will have one winner and one runner-up — twelve (12) recipients in total — who will receive a bundle featuring some of the best video game titles and rare, unique merchandise from the developers and publishers supporting the Photo Mode Awards.
Refer to our T&Cs page for more details about the prizes.

The PMA team will shortlist photos in each category to progress to the next round. This year, a minimum of 16 finalists will be selected per category, increasing the opportunities for individuals to be recognized for their outstanding work.
Selections will be based on the photo’s merit, adherence to the theme, and compliance with the rules.
As the evaluation focuses purely on the photos themselves, rather than the individuals who submitted them, participants may have multiple entries that advance to the next round of the Awards. However, an individual cannot win multiple categories or prizes, so if they receive the highest votes in more than one, the prize will be awarded to the next most-voted photographer.
The Photo Mode Awards will be judged by a panel of leading gaming industry experts. Each finalist will be evaluated based on creativity, composition, and adherence to the theme. The judging process is designed to be fair and impartial. Each Judge will not have access to each other’s selection and it will be fully centralised via The Photo Mode Awards.
There will be one (1) Winner and one (1) Runner Up per category.
All finalists, winners, and runners-up will be revealed exclusively during the official Photo Mode Awards Show.
Stay tuned to our website and social channels for the show announcement and details on when and where to watch.
The Winner and Runner Up of each category will be announced by August 3rd 2025.
